The spelter statues have some wear to the original finish and are perfect in every other way, there are no bends, breaks or missing pieces, not even a finger missing. And except for the incised scrollwork it has not been repainted like many of the clocks you see. The condition of this clock is outstanding overall. It is a time consuming process that produces beautiful, highly detailed results, unlike sand casting. Ansonia used a technique called"Lost Wax Casting" and it is the only way to get the magnificent results that you see in this auction. Ansonia's chief designer for the time was Henry Davies, and as you can see, he was a master craftsman. With a great amount of detail you will not find with most other statue makers of the era. The casting is an extremely high quality. The hand waxing really makes the statues stand out and brings more color to the original bronzing.
